NASA Television will broadcast live coverage of a six-hour spacewalk by two
Russian crew members aboard the International Space Station beginning at 9 a.m.
EDT Wednesday, Oct. 22.
Expedition 41 Commander Max Suraev and Flight Engineer Alexander Samokutyaev
of the Russian Federal Space Agency will don Orlan spacesuits and exit the
station’s Pirs airlock at 9:24 a.m. They will remove and jettison several pieces
of hardware no longer needed on the Russian segment of the station and conduct a
detailed photographic survey of the exterior surface of the Russian modules.
The spacewalk will be the 184th in support of space station assembly and
maintenance, the third in as many weeks for Expedition 41 crew members, and the
second career spacewalks for both Suraev and Samokutyaev.
Suraev will be designated as extravehicular (EV) crew member 1 and will wear
an Orlan suit bearing red stripes. Samokutyaev will be designated as EV-2 and
will wear a suit with blue stripes.
